Queers have become a lovely sight – but at what cost? Jin Haritaworn argues that queer subjects are now worthy of protection, but that this has happened through the invention of a new folk devil, the ‘homophobic Muslim’. Drawing on kitchen table conversations with queers of color in Berlin, and on a rich archive of media, arts, policy and activism, Haritaworn traces ‘queer regenerations’ in the gentrifying inner city, where queers come to life amidst social death. The books lets queer lovers, drag kings, criminalised youth and other Others appear on a common plane, and new ways of sharing space become imaginable.
